Professor Jisus arrested at UTME Centre over examination malpractice

One man who claimed to be a professor, Mr Jide Jisus, has been arrested as the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2019 commenced across the country.
The spokesman for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Fabian Benjamin, confirmed this in a statement forwarded to Channels Television on Friday.
Jisus was apprehended over an allegation of examination malpractice by the monitoring team of the JAMB Registrar on Thursday at an institution in Jabi area of Abuja, the nation’s capital.
“His (the suspect) identity was shrouded in dubious tales. He claimed during interrogation that he was one of the professors selected by the Board to oversee the conduct of the 2019 UTME,” the statement said.
Benjamin disclosed further that Jisus claimed that he was awarded a professorial position by Christian University, Isolo, Lagos and that he had two professorial awards from “Becket” University England and Freedom University.

The suspect also claimed to be an employee of “Anchor Polytechnic, Kubwa, Abuja”, an institution JAMB said does not exist.
Similarly, he said he was the president of the United Nigeria Chaplin Institute of Peace Academy.
It was, however, discovered that the suspect had a daughter who was taking the 2019 UTME in the same centre where he was caught.
JAMB insisted that its operational guideline does not allow unauthorised persons into the examination hall.
It added that the said professor was not one of those it selected to monitor the conduct of the examination.
